Many things can cause high cholesterol, including:
Diet. Eating too much saturated fat and cholesterol can raise your cholesterol. Saturated fat and cholesterol are in foods that come from animals (such as beef, pork, veal, milk, eggs, butter, and cheese), many packaged foods, stick margarine, vegetable shortening, and snack foods like cookies, crackers, and chips.
Weight. Being overweight may raise triglycerides and lower “good” HDL.
Activity level. Not exercising may raise “bad” LDL and lower HDL.
Overall health. Diseases such as hypothyroidism can raise cholesterol. Smoking may lower HDL.
Age. Cholesterol starts to rise after age 20. In men, it usually levels off after age 50. In women, it stays fairly low until menopause. After that, cholesterol levels rise to about the same levels as in men.
Family. Some people inherit a rare disease called a lipid disorder. It can cause very high total cholesterol, very low HDL, and high triglycerides. If you have this problem, you will need to start treatment at a young age.
How is it treated?
The two main treatments are lifestyle changes and medicines. The goal of treatment is to lower your “bad” LDL cholesterol and reduce your risk of a heart attack. You may also need to raise your “good” HDL cholesterol. A high level of HDL helps reduce your risk of Cholesterol and Heart Disease.
Follow the Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC) diet. The goal is to reduce the amount of saturated fat you eat. Eating saturated fat raises your cholesterol. The TLC diet helps you learn to make better food choices by picking lean meats, low-fat or non-fat products, and good fats like olive and canola oils.
Lose weight, if you need to. Losing just 5 to 10 pounds (2.3 to 4.5 kilograms) can lower your cholesterol and triglycerides. Losing weight can also help lower your blood pressure.
Be more active. Exercise can raise your “good” HDL and may help you control your weight.
Quit smoking, if you smoke. Quitting can help raise your HDL and improve your heart health.
Eating too much saturated fat and cholesterol can raise your cholesterol. Saturated fat and cholesterol are in foods that come from animals (such as beef, pork, veal, milk, eggs, butter, and cheese), many packaged foods, stick margarine, vegetable shortening, and snack foods like sweets, biscakes, and chips.
It is important to take your medicine utterly the way your doctor tells you to. If you stop taking your medicine, your cholesterol will go back up. You will need to bash your cholesterol checked regularly. Your results can help your doctor know if lifestyle changes have helped or if you need more or different medicines.
The trouble with high blood pressure is that this is a silent killer that often develops without giving you any warning signs of high blood pressure that will let you know that your otherwise good health has been compromised and what’s more, even if you have been feeling good, there is always a danger underfoot that can only be identified through monitoring your blood pressure and also through having check-ups done periodically.
Warning Signs Of High Blood Pressure Includes Blood Pressure Readings To Lookout For
Typically, the warning signs of high blood pressureinclude a blood pressure reading of one hundred and forty by ninety mm Hg or even higher. If these are your blood pressure readings then you should treat these readings as a warning signs of high blood pressure and you should then take immediate remedial action. Many other serious diseases may occur due to the negligence of warning signs of high blood pressure.
120/80 is the normal blood pressure readings. If your blood pressure readings stands betwee 120/80 and 139/89, it is a stage where hepertension develops at any time. Readings of one hundred and forty by ninety mm Hg and above are warning signs of high blood pressure and must be acted upon without delay.
Not only high blood pressure is dangerous but low blood pressure is also as well. However, whenever your blood pressure levels rise above the one hundred and forty by ninety mm Hg you can be sure that you have begun experiencing warning signs of high blood pressure and this should let you know that your health has been seriously compromised.
Frequent check-ups are the best way to identify warning signs of high blood pressure at an early stage. It is good for your health to get your blood pressure examined at least once a year so that you can take prevention before the problem of high blood pressure starts.
It is also recommended that you look out for physical symptoms of high blood pressure and in case you notice any such symptoms you should immediately make an appointment with your general practitioner who will then have to diagnose your condition. The only trouble is that in many cases there are hardly any physical symptoms that will warn you of your elevated blood pressure condition and that are why high blood pressure is referred to as a silent killer of a disease.

One common negative trait that trails my family deals specifically with heart issues. So a large number of my family members died either from congestive heart failure or a heart attack. So a lot of my aunts and uncles believe that we are cursed with heart issues. But I vowed not to let this be my problem. So I am doing everything in my power to prevent this from happening to me. My purpose is not to become a statistic by dying very young because of an extremely weak heart.
Therefore, during the past 4 weeks, I’ve been taking extra precaution on the types of food that I eat. One thing I noticed about my family, is that we are pork lovers. Every meal has to have pork in it, which is really bad. So in order to lower my chances of getting a heart attack, I’ve resolved to have a diet free of pork and fatty foods. As a meat, I am now eating baked chicken and fish.
Not only am I eating healthy, but I am also exercising as often as I can. One method for building up your heart muscles is by doing intense cardio workouts. So what I am currently doing is 45 minutes per day in fast paced cardio aerobics. I’ve been also exercising on various abdominal workout machines in order to get rid of the fat around my tummy. One machine that I enjoy working out on is called the abs rocket machine. The device not only strengthens your ab muscle, but it also gives you a nice cardio workout that strengthens your heart as well.
In addition to exercising on abdominal workout machines, I am also doing a little strength training. Right now, I am working with 8 pound dumbells in order to strengthen my biceps and triceps. I have toned my muscles so much that I can now see the muscular curves and physique that I’ve always dreamed of. But the neat thing about strength training, is that it also helps me build up my heart rate. In other words, I am doing two important workouts in one attempt.
