Frank does EECP®

May 2nd, 2010 by admin

Enhanced External Counterpulsation treatment for Frank’s chronic stable angina. During treatment, the patient lays on a bed wearing a series of pressure cuffs (like large blood pressure cuffs). The cuffs inflate and deflate in sequence with the heartbeat. As a result, blood is pushed up from the lower extremities to the heart into the coronary vessels, including those that have non-total blockages. This is a non-invasive treatment for people who: are not able to receive relief from medications, do not qualify for invasive procedures, have tried invasive procedures and are still having angina symptoms, want to explore alternatives to bypass surgery or angioplasty. Frank reports a decrease in chest pain following treatment. He’s happy as can be that he’s 82 and still going! He kind of misses the daily drives to downtown Portland.
