Blood pressure is the measure of the the force used by the blood on the walls of the arteries. It is due to two kinds of forces. The first force is created when the heart pumps blood into the arteries through the circulatory system. The other force is created when the arteries resist the pressure exerted by the blood.
Consistent high blood pressure can be termed as hypertension as well. Any blood pressure reading which surpasses the 140 / 90mm HG is diagnosed to be high blood pressure. If you’ve noticed your blood pressure to be constantly above the reading, it could be prudent to find professional help to reduce it.
The strain caused by the pressure of the blood on the arteries can lead to weakening or blocking of the vessels which in turn may light the way to the clogging and weakening of blood vessels themselves. It may eventually cause damage to the heart and kidneys as well. High blood also renders the body more vulnerable to diseases such as coronary problems, stroke, kidney infirmities and dementia.
If you want to lower your blood pressure levels, then you’ve got more than just one way of going about the same. One of the first things you can do to bring down your blood pressure levels is reduce weight. Excessive weight strains the heart and disturbs normal pumping of blood.
Reducing your consumption of sodium will also help lower blood pressure. Most food items such as potato chips, cheese, bread, nachos, cookies etc contain sodium. Sodium is also present in salt. 2,000 milligrams of sodium every day is the recommended intake.
Another thing that you can do to control hypertension is quit alcohol. Reducing your caffeine intake will also help lower blood pressure. Unwarranted caffeine intake ends up in acidity that in turn causes strain on the heart that eventually increases the blood pressure.
You should also increase your consumption of calcium, magnesium and potassium. These minerals contribute to a healthy heart and contribute to optimal blood circulation. This avoids any kind of load on the heart and keeps hypertension at bay.
Try to include more of fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. cut down food items that are high on Fats and cholesterol. Fats and cholesterol obstruct the ordinary working of the heart and increase blood pressure.
Quit smoking and stop the intake of tobacco. Cigarettes contain nicotine. Nicotine and tobacco narrow the blood vessels which causes the heart to beat faster. This results in increase of the blood pressure.
you may also use blood pressure medicines available widely in the market. These include diuretics, beta blockers, alpha blockers, ACE inhibitors and calcium channel blockers. While diuretics help in eliminating excess sodium from the body, the beta blockers block adrenaline effects. Alpha blockers remove any blockage of the arteries while ACE inhibitors prevent blood vessels from narrowing. Calcium channel blockers further prevent the narrowing of the blood vessels by blocking the calcium from entering the blood cells.
