what is an angina attack?

June 7th, 2010 by admin

my mom has a pain sometimes right below the center of her breast. She says the only thing that releaves it is a carbonated drink. She is calling it an angina attack but I don’t think thats what it is.

An angina attack is severe chest pain due to ischemia (a lack of blood and hence oxygen supply) of the heart muscle and it is not the same as a heart attack. In a heart attack a portion of the heart receives little or no oxygen for a longer period of time. Without oxygen, that portion of the heart muscle dies.
While angina typically occurs after a predictable amount of exercise, and usually lasts no longer than ten minutes. It is reversible without any tissue injury.

As your mom experiences the pain in the chest located near breast, shows that she is suffering from angina.
